Church of St Thomas Becket and the Doom Painting

Church of St Thomas Becket and the Doom Painting

This church dates back to the first half of the thirteenth century, providing, religious services for a large number of workers and craftsmen building Salisbury Cathedral.
Of particular interest in the interior of this church is a Doom Painting of the Last Judgement commissioned between 1470 to 1500, artist unknown. The painting was whitewashed out during the Reformation and forgotten about.
However, in 1819 colour traces began to appear through the whitewash, which was delicately removed.
