I have had the good fortune to spend a week in July and another in October staying in a cottage in the village of Portmeirion. This Italianate village was built over several decades by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis starting in the 1920's.

There is a fine hotel and most of the buildings in the village are available to rent. The village is probably best known as the location for the 1960's cult TV series "The Prisoner".
